PURPOSE:To classify a titanium oxide slurry continuously, by using a classification tank equipped with a lamelar space wherein inclined plates are arranged to the upper part of a hopper having a conical or pyramidal bottom surface so as to leave constant intervals therebetween. CONSTITUTION:When a titanium oxide slurry containing coarse particles is continuously and succeedingly supplied to a hopper 1 from a supply pipe 5, said titanium oxide slurry is overflowed from the hopper 1 and rises through a lamelar space 2. However, because inclined plates 8 are arranged in the lamelar space 2 so as to leave constant intervals therebetween, particles in the rising titanium oxide slurry are impinged to the inclined under surfaces of the plates 8 and flowed downwardly to be settled. The classification is performed by the balance of a settling speed and the rising speed of the titanium oxide slurry. The degree of classification is dependent on the supply speed of the slurry, the cross-sectional area of the lamelar space 2 and the angle of the inclind plates 8.
