In a process for disposing of iron-containing, dust-form or sludge-form refuse of metallurgical industries, for example filter dusts having free hexavalent chromium, according to the invention it is provided that a mixture is prepared of two different, iron-containing refuse materials, that is of filter dust from steel production and red mud from aluminium production or a mixture of filter dust and fly ash of a power station from the combustion of coal or refuse, in each case preferably in the ratio between 50 % by weight:50 % by weight to 10 % by weight:90 % by weight red mud to filter dust or filter dust to fly ash, or a mixture of all three components, preferably in the ratio according to percentage by weight of equal portions to 15:75:10 % by weight red mud:fly ash:filter dust and the mixture is processed as a spreadable mass to form bricks which are completed by firing at temperatures of preferably approximately 900 DEG C and holding times of 4 hours or 12 hours.
