A cylinder head for internal combustion engines has expansion joints arranged in the base of the cylinder head on the combustion chamber side, especially expansion joints formed by integrally cast inserts. In order to stop any cracks originating from the end area of an expansion joint remote from the combustion chamber, a further insert is arranged in the base of the cylinder head adjacent at an interval to the end area of the expansion joint remote from the combustion chamber.
