PURPOSE:To provide a supercharger which increases the pressure of feed air through an increase in the rotation speed of the supercharger by means of electric energy during running at a low speed in which the displacement volume of an engine is low, and maintains the pressure of feed air at a specific value through conversion of exhaust gas energy into electric energy during running at a high speed in which the displacement volume is high. CONSTITUTION:When a supercharging pressure detected by a pressure detector 18 is below a set value, an instruction is sent to an inverter 7 by a minicomputer 19, and a high frequency current flows from a battery 8 to a high speed induction machine 6 through the inverter 7. The high speed induction machine 6 is actuated as an electric motor, a supercharger 1 is increased in the number of rotations, and a supercharging pressure fed from a compressor 3 to an engine 10 is increased. Contrarily, when a supercharging pressure is higher than a set value, an instruction is sent to a controller 9 additionally acting as a rectifier from the minicomputer 19, the high speed induction machine 6 is actuated as a generator, a load is additionally applied on a supercharger 1 to control the supercharging pressure of the compressor 3 to a given value, and the generated power is rectified by the device 9 to charge the battery 8. |
