PURPOSE:To steplessly change the length of a shaft by oil-tightly connecting the first oil-tight chamber formed between two relatively displaceable portions to the second variable-volume oil-tight chamber in a shaft length changing mechanism. CONSTITUTION:An oil-tight chamber 6 is formed between stopper rods 2, 3, and the oil-tight chamber 6 is oil-tightly connected to an oil bath 9 through a copper pipe 8 by a piston 11 adapted to vary the volume of the oil bath 9. The piston 11 is moved so that the stopper rod 2 is operated through the copper pipe 8 by hydraulic pressure. Thus, the shaft length can be changed substantially steplessly, and the operation can be performed in a short time. |
