PURPOSE:To minimize the deformation of the teeth of a gear when the teeth are subjected to surface hardening by high frequency heating and quenching, by spouting a coolant from nozzles arranged along a coil toward the bottoms of the heated metallic teeth at right angles under a specified pressure or above. CONSTITUTION:A gear is concentrically placed in a high frequency coil, and while rotating the gear, the surfaces of the teeth are rapidly heated to the hardening temp. When the hardening temp. is attained, the rotation is quickly stopped, and a coolant is spouted from nozzles arranged along the coil in correspondence to the pitch of the teeth toward the bottoms of the teeth at right angles under >=1kgf/cm<2>, preferably 1.5-3kgf/cm<2> pressure. The deformation of the teeth by hardening is minimized, and a fine gear subjected to surface induction hardening is obtd. |
