PURPOSE:To obtain a rotor for a rotary compressor having superior wear resistance and strength by using an Al alloy obtd. by adding specified amounts of Si and Cu to Al and provided with a specified structure. CONSTITUTION:The composition of an Al alloy is composed of 16-30wt% Si, 0.3-7wt% Cu and the balance Al, and the alloy is provided with a structure contg. uniformly distributed proeutectic Si grains of 40-80mum grain size accounting for >=60% of the total area of all of proeutectic Si grains in the Al matrix. It is preferable that uniformly distributed eutectic Si grains of <=10mum grain size accounting for >=60% of the total area of all of proeutectic Si grains are further contained in the Al matrix. A rotor for a rotary compressor is made of the Al alloy.
