PURPOSE:To obtain a formed whisker body having very low compressibility in spite of its low Vf desity value and such high nondeformability that the body is well fit for severe temp. and pressure conditions by treating furred or preformed whiskers with a mixed aqueous soln. contg. sodium alginate and acrylic acid. CONSTITUTION:Said whiskers of SiC, Si3N4 or the like are dispersed in a mixed aqueous soln. contg. sodium alginate and acrylic acid with stirring to stick the binder components to the surfaces of the whiskers. The treated whiskers are separated by filtration with a filter of a prescribed shape under ordinary pressure or elevated pressure of gas, and the resulting wet whisker cake is heated to obtain a strengthened formed whisker body. It is preferable that said mixed aqueous soln. is prepd. by mixing an aqueous sodium alginate soln. having 0.5- 2.0wt% concn. with an aqueous acrylic acid soln. having 1.0-4.0wt% concn. in 1:(0.5-1.0) ratio. |
