660,083. Batteries. TRIGGS, W. W. (Edison, Inc., T. A.). Dec. 15, 1949, No. 32246/49. Class 53. A battery case 10 is provided with a lid 15 which is held in position by two metal straps 23, Fig. 2. The straps have turned-in edges 24 which engage upper surfaces on the lid and are shaped as shown at 25 to fit the walls of the case. The ends of the straps are bent into hook form as shown in plan at 26 in Fig. 5, and lie in recesses 20 formed in the case walls. The hook portions 26 diverge upwardly as shown in end view in Fig. 4, and are engaged by similarly shaped members 27 which are slid into position and forced upwardly by hammer blows on a projecting lug 29. This action draws the ends of the straps together and tightens them about the case and lid. A tab 30 at the top of the member 27 is turned over to engage the top of the lid and lock the member 27 in position. Belt loops 31 are welded to one of the straps 23 and engage at their lower ends in bosses 33 on the case. |
