PURPOSE:To obtain ZrO2 of high purity efficiently and inexpensively by heat- treating the mixture of zircon powder and carbon in reduced pressure at specified temp. CONSTITUTION:The powder of mixture or its molded article contg. zircon powder and carbon contents such as petroleum coke and if necessary, a stabilizing agent such as MgO is heat-treated under reduced pressure of <=0.7atom at the temp. range of 1,300-2,000 deg.C. The silica content contained in said zircon powder is volatilized and removed by said treatment. Successively, if necessary, oxidative treatment is performed. By said carbon reduction desiliconization method under reduced pressure, unstabilized ZrO2 and stabilized ZrO2 of high purity can be produced efficiently at low temp. in a short period. |
