PURPOSE:A nucleating agent for polymers which can give crystalline polymers excellent in mechanical properties, oil resistance, heat resistance, and optical properties such as transparency and gloss, comprising a specified oxamide. CONSTITUTION:A nucleating agent for polymers, comprising a compound of formula I [wherein R<1> and R<2> are each a (substituted) alkyl or aryl], e.g., N,N'- bis(phenylsulfonyl)oxamide, or N,N'-bis(beta-naphthylsulfonlyl)oxamide. When this nucleating agent is used for crystalline polymers, especially, polyolefins, it accelerates crystallization and further reduces the size of crystal and, thus improving transparency. This compound can be obtained by reacting a sulfonamide of formula II with oxalyl chloride in an organic solvent such as an ether, nitrile, or aromatic hydrocarbon.
