PURPOSE:To provide high quality to sintered ore at all times by making several windows of a heat resistant transparent material in the pallet side wall of a sintering apparatus, detecting a sintering state with a TV camera, and controlling sintering controlling elements so as to optimize the distribution of a red-hot zone in starting materials. CONSTITUTION:Several heat resistant transparent windows A-D of quartz glass or the like are made in the pallet side wall 4 of a sintering apparatus 2, and the distribution of a red-hot zone moving gradually downward is detected with corresponding TV cameras 6 or a moving TV camera 6. In accordance with the transition of the distribution of the red-hot zone sintering controlling elements such as the degree of opening of each wind box in the longitudinal direction of the apparatus, the thickness of starting materials charged, the speed of the pallet, the amount of coke blended, the ununiform distribution of coke and the volume of coke gas in a firing furnace are changed or regulated so as to optimize the distribution of the red-hot zone. By this control the quality of sintered ore is made uniform at all times.
