PURPOSE:To cover an optical fiber with a polymer layer having a uniform thickness in the diametral and axial directions by passing an optical fiber drawn out of the nozzle of a polymer coating vessel through the 2nd nozzle to carry out shaping again and by baking the resulting polymer layer. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is passed through a liq. polymer 2 in a coating vessel 3 in an arrow direction, and it is drawn out through the nozzle 4 to form an optical fiber 1 coated with the polymer. The coated fiber 1 is passed through the 2nd nozzle 7 having a slightly smaller diameter than the nozzle 4 to shape the polymer layer on the surface again. An excess of the polymer is discharged in arrow directions. The resulting polymer layer is baked by passing the fiber 1 through a heating furnace 5 to obtain an optical fiber covered with a cured polymer layer having a uniform thickness in the diametral and axial directions, and the fiber is wound around a drum 6.
