PURPOSE:To reduce the quantity of intake air to a level lower than the ordinary quantity of intake air at the time of non-supercharged operation of an engine by controlling solenoid valves, by dividing an air intake passage connected to the suction side of the engine into a plurality of sections, and providing solenoid valves in said air inlet passage. CONSTITUTION:An air pump 1 has a rotor 23 which is driven by an engine by use of a belt 22. Supply of intake air is stopped at an intermediate stage of suction stroke by controlling the opening timing and the opening period of solenoid valves 21a, 21b by a signal corresponding to the depression angle of an accelerator pedal in synchronism with rotation of the air pump 1. By the negative pressure produced by the engine, the pump 1 functions as a vacuum motor and the output of the vacuum motor is returned to the output shaft of the engine by the belt 22. |
