An obstetric device for assisting in the birth of animals especially lambs, comprising a hollow stem member one end of which is forked, one of the prongs of the fork being substantially co-axially aligned with the axis of the stem, the other prong extending at an angle to the stem, cord means threaded through the stem and arranged to form a loop between the free ends of the prongs, the loop being offset with respect to the axis of the stem, so arranged that in use the offset loop can be varied in size by manipulating the cord means externally of the stem.
