<p>Straw for the preservation by freezing of mammalian embryos. The straw is characterized in that it is sealed at its two ends (13,14)until the time of its use in the mammal and in that the embryo (4')within the medium for preservation by freezing is surrounded,respectively: (A) on the one hand,sequentially towards one end (13,14) by (a) a gaseous mixture (5),(b)a culture medium(6)and (c) a first sealing end plug (2), (B)and on the other hand,sequentially towards the other end (14),by (d)a gas bubble (7),(e) a solution (g)of at least one water-miscible substance lowly,if at all,toxic at ambient temperature to the embryo (4')which will not get into the embryo cells but provides outside said embryo(4') a sufficient osmotic pressure to allow gradual diffusion of the cryoprotector (4)outwards of the cells,the arrangement being such that,upon thawing,the embryo(4)within its preservation medium is directly contacted with said solution (8)(f)another gas bubble (9)and (g)a second sealing end plug (3) FIGURE 1.</p> |
