PURPOSE:To shorten the time to reach a destination in an unfamiliar area by displaying the road maps each using major administrative section as a unit and those each using minor administrative section as a unit at any place in a country through a public telephone network. CONSTITUTION:An electronic computer system 2 serving as a processor is connected to a terminal of a public telephone 1. While a terminal telephone 3, a display device 4 and a printer 5 are connected to other terminals of the telephone 1 respectively. Now a code number corresponding to a desired city, town or village is fed through the telephone 3, the read map of a larger administrative section of the corresponding city, town or village is read out of the 1st file in a master file 6 and displayed to a display device 4. Then a part of the relevant city, town or village is displayed by a point in the map. Then the corresponding road map is read out of the 2nd file in the file 6 and displayed to the device 4 after a prescribed period of time. While the contents of the device 4 can be printed by actuating the printer 5 after an amount of fee is thrown into a coin slot 5c.
