摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized, lightweight, and large-capacity optical communication cable by bundling and inserting plural optical fibers which have a low-refractive-index clad layer around a core part into a tube and drawing the optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:A core 13 and a clad 14 are made of, for example, quartz glass and a dopant such as Ge, P, B, and F is mixed in the core or clad so that the core has a larger refractive index. The clad 14 is provided around the core 13 and a support layer 15 is formed when necessary to form one optical fiber for communication. Then, hundreds of optical fibers are covered with the same support layers 12 and its periphery is further covered with a protection coating to form a fiber bundle. The respective fibers in this fiber bundles are equal in geometric relative position in optional section to the overall length and the diameter ratio of the core and clad is set to >=2.5 to prevent light from leaking to adjacent fiber, so that this fiber bundle is sufficiently usable as an optical communication cable within a short distance of hundreds of meters.
