PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound capable of providing a resin with flame resistance, by reacting a specific monoalkylamine with formaldehyde, etc. and a specific trialkyl phosphite, removing an alcohol prepared as a by-product. CONSTITUTION:(A) A monoalkylamine (e.g., octylamine, etc.) shown by the formula I (R<1> is 4-18C alkyl) is reacted with (B) formaldehyde or its derivative, and (C) a trialkyl phosphite (e.g., trimethyl phosphite, etc.) shown by the formula II(R are 1-4C alkyls which may be different one another) in an equimolar ratio preferably at 40-100 deg.C, and an equimolar amount of alcohol is eliminated, to give the desired compound shown by the formula III.
