DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDING AND REPRODUCING METHOD FOR HIGH- QUALITY TELEVISION SIGNAL

PURPOSE:To attain the video record and reproduction with a standard digital video recording/reproducing device by converting high-quality TV signals equivalent to two lines into signals equivalent to one line of said recording/producing device for video record and reproduction and at the same time deleting the signals equivalent to prescribed plural lines at the upper and lower ends of a picture to perform the video record and reproduction. CONSTITUTION:For high-quality TV signals, 720 samples out of 936 samples equivalent to two lines including 94 samples of color signals and 374 samples of luminance signals are converted into video signals contained in the picture signals for cideo record and reproduction. Therefore the high-quality TV signals are compressed properly in accordance with the record capacity of a standard VTR for video record and reproduction. The video signals equivalent to 8 lines at upper and lower end parts of the picture plane of an odd field are disused together with those equivalent to 7 lines at upper and lower end parts of the picture plane of an even field. Thus the upper and lower end parts of a picture plane are reduced just by 1.54% and 1.34% at odd and even fields respectively. Such small reduction of the picture plane produces practically no problem at all.
