A carbamate derivative represented by the formula (I): wherein R1 and R2, which may be the same or different, each represents (1) -X-COOR3, in which X represents an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and R3 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms; or (2)-Y-CN, in which Y represents an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and R2 further represents an alkyl group having 1 to 8 carbon atoms; a cycloalkyl group having 3 to 6 carbon atoms; a benzyl group which may be substituted with a halogen aton, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; a phenyl group which may be substituted with a halogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; or.-Z-R4, in which Z represents a carbonyl group or a sulfonyl group, and R4 represents an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, a benzyl group, an alkoxy group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a phenoxy group and a process for preparing the same by reacting a compound represented by the formula (II): (II) with sulfur dichloride to form 2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-benzofuran- -7-yl N-(chlorosulfenyl)-N-methyl-Carbamate represented by the formula (III): (III) which is then reacted with an amine compound represented by the formula (IV): (IV) wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above.
