PURPOSE:To facilitate production of a word dictionary for after-treatment of an OCR capable of reading at every word by reading words including KANJI (Chinese character) entered on a sheet for dictionary registration through the OCR and by providing a means for correcting characters which cannot be read. CONSTITUTION:Words, characters, other necessary items, etc., are entered on a sheet for dictionary registration 20, and read out by a KANJI OCR10, which performs processing in the order of a character in accordance with all kinds of character dictionary in a dictionary memory 11. The read-out result outputted from the OCR10 is transmitted to a controller 12, which stores it in an intermediate filter memory 13. With a keyboard operation of an I/O device 14, contents of the memory 13 are read out, and displayed on a CRT. If some words cannot be read out through the OCR10, they are corrected by operations such as addition and deletion of some characters, while they are compared with those on the sheet 20. The controller 12 produces a word dictionary for aftertreatment in accordance with the corrected information, and stores it in an output file memory 15. Said dictionary from the memory 15 is registered in the memory 11 after the specific treatment.
