PURPOSE:To convert softwood into roughage, by carrying out pretreatment of impregnating chips or powdery (granular) material with an aqueous solution obtained by dissolving any salt of ammonium chloride, aluminum chloride, ferric chloride, zinc chloride, aluminum sulfate and ammonium persulfate before steaming. CONSTITUTION:Examples of a water-insoluble inorganic salt to be used include NH4Cl, AlCl3, FeCl3, ZnCl2, Al2(SO4)3, (NH4)2S2O8, etc. These salts act as a catalyst for accelerating hydrolytic reaction by steaming. Woody material to be an object includes most of softwood, and further some kinds of hardwood incapable of giving a sufficient enzymic saccharifying ratio (generally >=40% digestibility in intake by ruminants) only by steaming, e.g. Japanese horse chestnut, KEYAKI or chinquapin, or bamboo grass. |
