PURPOSE:To permit the circular automatic grinding for the section of a corner part by turning a rotary tool in the direction crossing with the transfer direction along a guide rail by a turning frame, transferring the rotary tool in the longitudinal direction of the corner part by a transfer frame. CONSTITUTION:Grinding work is carried-out by operating a grinder 34 and driving a transfer frame 8 forward. The variation of the position of the upper surface of a workpiece A is detected by a profiling stylus 38 during grinding, and the position of the grinder 34 in the vertical direction is adjusted by driving a servomotor 28 according to the detection amount. The detected variation amount is memorized into a memory apparatus, and when the upper-surface grinding is completed, the grinder 34 is brought into stop, and the frame 8 is returned to the original position. Then, the side surface in the vicinity of the corner part of the workpiece A is ground similarly, and after the completion of the work, the grinder 34 is brought into stop, and the frame 8 is returned again to the original position. After the position variation is memorized by using the stylus 38, the circular locus of te corner part is calculated according to the pattern of the flat side surface 2, and the work is aslantly ground along the guide rail 12 of a turning frame 16 by controlling the operation in Z direction of the servomotor 28.
