PURPOSE:The titled composition having a light weight and excellent wear resistance, obtained by making paper from a mixture of pulp, aramid fibers, potassium titanate fibers, an inorganic filler, a friction modifier, and a thermosetting resin, followed by molding under heat and pressure after polymerization. CONSTITUTION:0.2-10wt% mixture containing 2-20wt% pulp, 2-25wt% aramid pulp and/or aramid fibers, 5-40wt% potassium titanate fibers, 3-50wt% inorganic filler (e.g. quartz), 3-20wt% friction modifier (e.g. melamine powders) having particle sizes of about 100 mesh, and 7-35wt% thermosetting resin (e.g. a phenolic resin) is dispersed in water to make paper therefrom, which is dried at a temperature of 105 deg.C or lower to obtain paper having a basis weight of 50-800g/m<2>, a thickness of 0.2-1.5mm., and an apparent density of 0.2-0.9g/m<3>. This paper is either cut to a specified width and rolled up, or polymerized, dried at 60-100 deg.C for at least 2hr and heated at 170-175 deg.C under a pressure of 50- 250kg/cm<2> for 2-10min to be formed into a specified shape. |
