PURPOSE:A prepolymer which can give an easily moldable polyphenylquinoxaline of excellent heat resistance, prepared by introducing an addition-polymerizable vinyl group to each end of a polyphenylquinoxaline resin prepolymer. CONSTITUTION:A polyphenylquinoxaline resin prepolymer having a vinyl group at each end, represented by formula I or II. In these formulae, Ar1 is formula III (wherein m is 0-3), n is 1-10, R1 is CH2, O, CO, SO2, or S, Ar2 is nil or formula IV. Because the moldability or heat resistance or the like of the quinoxaline resin depends on the MW of the prepolymer of formula I or II, it is necessary to optimize the MW of the polymer. A usually desirable MW falls within the range of about 1,000-10,000. Therefore, the prepolymer is generally prepared by a process comprising polycondensing a vinyl compound, a tetramine and a bisglyoxalyl compound each in an amount determined from the designed MW of the prepolymer in m-cresol.
