In order to make thin bands on two or more crochet hooks 10 10' per cm width, the shafts of the crochet hooks 10, 10' are fixed over more than half the hook length. A knock-over rail 20 fixedly connected to the machine has a free straight edge 66, which lies close, yet without clearance, to those parts of the crochet hooks 10, 10' projecting from the clamping device. The crochet hooks are fixed sufficiently securely against sideways bending. Friction of the crochet hooks against the knock-over rail 20 is eliminated. The crochet hooks can be fixed in groups, in which case they mutually stiffen one another. The supply of elastic threads is served by combs 6, which in the same rhythm as the work cycle of the crochet braiding machine, are moved laterally to and fro relative to the crochet hooks but are placed at a constant height above the crochet hooks. <IMAGE>
