PURPOSE:To eliminate moire even when an LPF is replaced by modulating light from an original picture passed through a pickup lens by the LPF, reducing and projecting the light from the original picture upon a specific grating surface through a lens, and observing appearing moire. CONSTITUTION:Light from a light source 1 is reflected by a mirror 2 at right angles, and passed through a small area of the original picture 4 and then transmitted through a pickup lens 5 and the LPF7, and its optical path is branched by a branching mirror 7. A reduction lens 8 for reducing an image expanded through the lens 5 and a grating 9 are so arranged on one optical path as to observe whether moire appears on the grating surface or not with the naked eyes. A reflecting mirror 10, aperture 11, three photoelectric converters corresponding to dichroic mirrors 12 for separating light into three color components R, G, and B and a total reflection mirror 12 are arranged on the other optical path, thus obtaining color-separated scanning image signals of the original picture. The moire is observed and a high frequency component is cut by the LPF to prevent the formation of the moire.
