PURPOSE:To produce a poly(phosphocholine) having a phospholipid-like structure in the polymer main chain, by heating a specified dioxaphospholane derivative in a polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:A dioxaphospholane derivative of formula II is obtained by reacting a compound of formula I [wherein A is a 1-12C linear or branched alkylene, or an organic group such as an (un)substituted phenylene and R<1> and R<2> are each an alkyl] with 2-chloro-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxasulfolane at -50-0 deg.C for 30min - several hr in the presence of a tert. amine (e.g., trimethylamine). This derivative is heated to 40-200 deg.C in a polar solvent (e.g., dimethylformamide) to open the dioxaphospholane rings, and a polar solvent of a paraffin solvent is added to the reaction mixture to obtain a poly(phosphocholine) of formula III.
