PURPOSE:To obtain the titled high-purity amide excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength, electric insulation and moldability, by washing a solution of a specified crude aromatic polyester-amide in an organic solvent mixture with water, separating the water phase and precipitating the polymer by adding a poor solvent. CONSTITUTION:1mol of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid dihalide (A) of formula I (wherein X is Cl or Br) is polycondensed with a mixture of (B) an aromatic dihydroxy compound of formula II (wherein R1-4 are each H or a halogen, a 1-4C alkyl, alkoxyl or phenyl, Y is methylene, a 2-6C alkylidene, O, S, or a like group, and n is 0 or 1) and (C) an aromatic hydroxyamino compound at a molar ratio of B to C of 1:0.1-10 (with the total amount of components B and C being 0.9-1.1mol) in the presence of a tert. amine in a solvent mixture comprising a halohydrocarbon solvent and a ketone and/or ether solvent. The product is washed with water and the water phase is separated and removed. A poor solvent (e.g., methanol) is added to the formed organic solvent mixture solution phase to precipitate the titled amide, which is then filtered and dried.
