PURPOSE:To enhance not only operational reliability but also flame arrival detection accuracy, by covering the circumference of a rod shaped center electrode with an insulator having a heater mounted thereto and providing an outside electrode also used as a sensor mounting metal jig to the outside of said insulator. CONSTITUTION:The circumference of a rod shaped center electrode 1 is covered with a cylindrical insulator 2 and an outside electrode 3 also used as a metal jig for mounting the whole of a sensor is provided to the outer periphery of said insulator 2 while a heater 10 is attached to the cylindrical insulator. When this flame surface sensor is inserted in an internal combusion engine and high pulse voltage is applied between electrodes 1, 3, discharge is generated between the electrodes 1, 3 if a combustion flame has arrived the sensor and, therefore, the arrival of a flame can be detected. Because adhered carbon is burnt off by the heater 10 and the extinction of the flame at the time of low temp. can be prevented, the sensor can be certainly operated. |
