PURPOSE:To increase the solubility of chlorine gas in electrolyte supplied to a battery during discharging by providing an electrolyte supply pipe with a branch pipe having a switching valve, installing a mixer connected to an electrolyte container in the branch tube and connecting a chlorine-gas-blowing pipe to the mixer. CONSTITUTION:An electrolyte container 1 is connected to a battery 2 by an electrolyte return pipe 5. Electrolyte is circulated in the direction indicated by the arrow by means of a pump 3. An electrolyte supply pipe 4 is provided with a branch pipe 10 having a switching valve 9 which is connected to a mixer 11 which is continuous with the electrolyte container 1, so that a part of the electrolyte in the supply pipe 4 is returned to the electrolyte container 1 through the mixer 11. Chlorine gas produced through decomposition in a chlorine hydrate container 6 by means of a heater 8 is blown into the mixer 11 by means of a chlorine gas pump 7 to dissolve the chlorine gas into the electrolyte. This process is controlled by a sequencer or similar device so that the switching valve 9 opens during the time when chlorine gas flows into the mixer 11, for example during the time when the pump 7 operates, and the pump 7 stops after the switching valve 9 is closed. |
