The invention relates to a device for filling and sealing multilayered paper bags which have a filling opening on their upper edge, which opening can be sealed by means of a sealing flap which extends beyond the upper edge, having a pair of clamping strips which are arranged in a stand, are displaceable towards a filling nozzle, are aligned with one another and the distance between which approximately corresponds to the length of the filling opening, the pairs of clamping strips being displaceable in relation to one another in the longitudinal direction of the filling opening, and having a device for sealing off the filling opening, consisting of a cheek and an abutment assigned to the latter. So that even multilayered paper bags with filling openings which extend across only part of the upper edge of the paper bag can be filled and sealed using this device, the abutment is to be movable, together with an abutment surface, essentially into the clamping plane for the paper bag which is defined by the pairs of clamping strips, the abutment surface is to have an upper edge which is horizontally aligned with the upper edge of the clamped paper bag when the clamping strips are lowered, and the cheek which is movable in relation to the abutment is to be guided from a rest position into a sealing position along a track, on which it takes hold of the sealing flap projecting beyond the upper edge of the paper bag and folds it over the filling opening until the clamping plane has been reached.
