In the metering device according to the invention, the piston of a supply container is pressed by a drive shaft situated between a threaded spindle and the piston with a predetermined stroke and at a constant pressure into the supply container. As a result of this, a quantity of fluid determined by the stroke and the cross-section of the supply container is discharged at the outlet of the supply container. The pitch of the thread on the threaded spindle and a very accurately presettable angle of rotation by means of which the drive shaft is rotated in each case are a measurement of the forward movement of the drive shaft and therefore also of the stroke of the piston of a supply container.
