Non-linear equalisers are used at the receiving end in order to be able to make use of limited-band transmission channels, for example telephone subscriber lines, for digital signal transmissions with bit repetition frequencies above the Nyquist frequency. The known equaliser types are still far removed from the information-theoretical limits in terms of the signal-to-noise ratio required for the transmission channel. To remedy this, an equaliser is described which has the basic structure of a transverse equaliser, at whose taps, however, products from feedback coefficients (h1 to hk) allocated to said taps and from the output signal of a discriminator (2) connected downstream from the transverse equaliser are added according to the invention. In the adapted condition of the feedback coefficients, the pulse response present in the transverse filter is thereby completely compensated immediately following the discrimination and the signal-to-noise ratio at the output of the discriminator is increased as a result. <IMAGE> |
