PURPOSE:To find easily a 0-padding record during the start-up of the system by writing a specific value and interrupting control once the interruption of the supply of write data is detected, and writing information for specifying the interruption position is written unless a report on the interruption is accepted. CONSTITUTION:If a host device 1 fails in operation, a file controller 4 detects an overrun immediately to perform 0-padding processing, and interrupts the writing of the record and reports that to the device 1. The controller 2 enters a time-out state unless information on the reception of the report is received from the device 1 within a specific time, and writes the cylinder number, track number, and record number of the record after the 0-padding processing as information for specifying the record position of the 0-padding processed record at a specific position in a predetermined testing cylinder on a disk medium containing said record. Consequently, the 0-padding processed record is found easily during the system start-up.
