A method is described for maintaining a temperature (which ensures a minimum capacity) of the electrolyte of a battery, especially for vehicle drives, which is connected to an electrical network during phases where it is not in use, via a charger, for charging and recharging. In order to reduce the construction and apparatus cost for battery heating, the charger is intended to be used for heating in that, if the temperature of the electrolyte falls below a first predetermined value, the charger is connected in order to initiate a renewed recharging process, which causes the temperature of the electrolyte to increase until a second, higher temperature is reached. A device for carrying out this method envisages a temperature sensor which detects the temperature in the electrolyte of the battery, the charger being connected for renewed recharging as a function of the measurements of said temperature sensor.
|
