A metal sheathed elastomeric cable incorporates a mastic sealing compound between the insulated cable core and the metal sheath and/or between the cable core and its elastomeric insulating layer, particularly for limiting ingress of water into the cable. The mastic sealing compound comprises colloidal clay (e.g. bentonite) dispersed within a non-migratory liquid vehicle (e.g. a PVC plasticiser) and loaded with a semi-conducting material (e.g. carbon) such as to render the mastic electrically semi-conducting. |
