With the invention "erasing process for optical data stores", a method is presented which permits the erasing of information bits by using an external pressure change in parts or the entire storage area. Storage materials which bear the coded information as an absorption change, within a narrow frequency band, in the respectively inhomogeneously widened absorption bands are suitable for use here. This method of optical data storage comprises the storing of various information bits at the same location of the storage medium. By external pressure application, the information in the respective local storage area is erased.
