In internal combustion engines, there is the problem of providing a sufficient quantity of lubricating oil for individual consuming units or a group of consuming units. A pressure regulating valve is therefore placed in a lubricating-oil hole leading to the consuming unit and this valve is designed as a cartridge insert valve. The pressure regulating valve has a spigot with an axial passage 7. The axial passage is open on the inlet side and, on the outlet side, runs into radial passages 8. The radial passages are closed counter to spring pressure by a sliding ring 9 which can be displaced on the spigot. The sliding ring is sealed relative to the bore in the manner of a piston. The spring space with the spring 11 has a relief hole 13 leading to the oil sump. <IMAGE>
