<p>An aqueous acidic electrolyte for electrodepositing an exceptionally bright, levelled and ductile copper deposit comprises a synergistic combination of: (a) a substituted phthalocyanine compound, and (b) an apo safranine compound represented by the formula: <IMAGE> wherein: R independently represents -CH3, -C2H5 and -C3H7; and X represents a chloride, bromide, iodide, fluoride, sulphate, bisulphate or nitrate ion. The electrolyte preferably also includes supplemental brightening agents such as organic polysulphides, sulphides and/or polyether compounds.</p> |
