NEW MATERIAL:Polysaccharide atractans A [molecular weight: 1.1X10<5> (gel filtration method); specific rotatory power: [alpha]D+0.7 deg. (c 0.21, water); elemental analysis value: C 41.57, H 5.55, N 0.79%; Degree of electrophoresis: 13.5cm (glucose 9.0cm); eluation time of DEAE-TOYOPARU chromatography: 6.8hr], B and C. USE:An agent for reducing blood sugar. PREPARATION:Atractylodes japonicum KOIZUMI or its relative plant is used as a raw material, not de-fatted or de-fatted with a fat-soluble organic solvent, and extracted with water or an aqueous organic solvent (e.g., lower alcohol such as methanol, etc.) preferably under heating. The extracted solution is directly dialyzed, or subjected to ultrafiltration, to give a mixture of atractans, substances having lowering action on blood sugar. The mixture is then fractionated, to isolate atractans A, B, and C. A dose is 50-500mg/day/person (oral administration). |
