The rack is intended for storing fuel rods for a thermo-nuclear reactor and comprises a number of identical vertical tubular compartments, particularly with rectangular or hexagonal cross-section, which are arranged side by side with spaces between them and are each built-up from a number of metal plates with accurately contoured edges etc.. Each compartment has its sides consisting of a number (six for hexagonal section) of identical long substantially rectangular plates connected at their longitudinal edges, preferably via vertically spaced lateral projections on one edge engaging corresponding cut-outs in the edge of an adjoining plate.
