A pin and box connector for high combined bending and tensile loads comprises pin member 10 and box member 20 each having complementary tapered threaded portions angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the coupling. The inboard end of the box member includes a shoulder 28 which is tapered at an angle A and adjacent the shoulder there is provided a seal ring groove 34. The pin member includes a tapered nose portion 52 for engagement with shoulder 28 and a cylindrical extension 50 which overlies seal ring groove 34 in the coupled condition. The pin and the box have frustoconical threads 12 and 22 in which the load bearing faces (36, Fig. 4 and 54, Fig. 8) are also angled with respect to the longitudinal axis of the coupling in order to maintain loading if the coupling is subjected to bending forces. <IMAGE> |
