PURPOSE:To attain shock-damping action in an electromagnetic coupling device, by providing such an arrangement that the dimensions of magnetic shield parts formed on magnetism generating members in the parts opposing to armatures are steppedly changed in accordance with the respective armatures. CONSTITUTION:In an electromagnetic clutch 1 composed of an output pulley 6 and input pulley 7, the cross-sectional areas of magnetic shield parts 24a, 24b of magnetism generating members in the parts which are opposed to armatures 13a through 13c are set such that they are steppedly increased in the outer diameter direction. With this arrangement it is possible to prevent a torque from being abruptly transmitted, and as well to obtain damping action.
