METHOD REPAIRS OF BLAST FURNACE LINING

A new method involves (i)providing an opening(4) in the steel shell(1) at the position of lining damage; (ii) providing a guide bar(5) and an axially slit tube(9) that fits on the outside of the guide bar; (iii) forcing the guide bar and the tube into the furnace; and (iv) spreading the slit portions at the forward end of the tube radially outward to form a support structure for monolithic refractory. The slit tube portions act as reinforcements for injected or sprayed refractory material to give highly reliable repairs, which are easily formed.
