PURPOSE:A high-selectivity herbicide with reduced chemical injury that contains, as an active ingredient, beta-naphthalenesulfonyl urea derivative, thus showing good herbicidal effect against perennial broad-leaf weeds which are troublesome as field weeds. CONSTITUTION:The objective herbicide contains, as an active ingredient, a compound of formula I [R<1>-R<9> are H, halogen, 1-3C alkyl, 1-5C alkoxy, 1-5C alkylthio, which may be substituted, respectively, and amino)]. The chemical injury to major crops such as corn, rice plant and soybean, which has been the major defect in conventional sulfonylurea herbicide, is markedly decreased and strong herbicidal effect against broad leaf weeds such as fleawort, daisy fleabane, is maintained.
