PURPOSE:To obtain easily soft magnetic parts, especially parts of a complex shape at a low cost without deteriorating the magnetic characteristics by forming an iron-base sintered article contg. a specified amount of silicon. CONSTITUTION:A sintered article is composed of 1-10wt% silicon and the balance essentially iron. The sintered article is preferably manufactured by a mother alloy process using iron powder and iron-silicon alloy powder mixed as powdery starting materials. The iron-silicon alloy contains 10-50wt% silicon.
