PURPOSE:To enable safe and handy detection of gas by a method wherein hydrogen is released from a hydrogen-occluded metal by a heating means to a gas detector responding to a hydrogen gas and the resistance value is detected with a detection circuit to send a signal. CONSTITUTION:A gas detector 1 is provided with a gas detection unit 3 and a hydrogen releasing unit 4 having a hydrogen-occluded metal 42 and a heater 43 on a base housing a detection circuit, a signal transmission circuit and the like. With a test switch 81 of a receiver 8 closed, the heater 43 generates heat to release hydrogen by heating the metal 42 in a container 41. Then, as the hydrogen gas thus obtained is radiated to a gas detection element 31 via a conduit 5, the element 31 adsorbs the gas to lower the resistance value. Changes in the resistance value are detected with a comparator 7 and an output thereof is transmitted to an SCR and a transmitter 8 to light a gas leak display lamp L2. Thus, a test can be done even remotely free from hazard of explosion. |
