The deesterification of cephalosporin methyl ester of formula (I) is carried out by contacting (I) with a deesterifying enzyme that is produced by culturing Streptomyces capillispira A49492 under enzyme- producing conditions. In (I), R is H or R3CH(NH2)CO-; R1 is methyl, chloro, acetoxymethyl, methoxy, methoxymethyl, aminocarbonyloxymethyl, methylthiadiazolyl thiomethyl or methyl tetrazolylthiomethyl; R2 is H or methoxy; and R3 is phenyl, cyclohexadienyl, hydroxy-mono-substd. cyclohexadienyl, etc. |
